An Invitation
Join us for the Maha
Sankranti Holyname Yajna.
Once a month, on Sankranti, our Sanga gathers to raise the Maha Sankranti Holyname Yajna. Every name offered into it is carried before the Lord together. The Sanga gathers both in person and online, from wherever each of us stands.
SMYHL Sanga is a devotional community, a Sanga, offering sacred practice daily, for the pleasure of Jaya JayaSri Jagannath, in the shelter of Sri Nrsimhadeva, Sri Sudarshana, and Sri Maha Lakshmi. We invite you to be part of it.

What is Sankranti
Sankranti is a sacred day in the Vedic calendar, when the sun enters its new sign. It happens once a month, and it is considered one of the most spiritually powerful times of the month, a day when prayer and offering carry far greater support than usual.
Next Sankranti
Simha (Leo) Sankranti · Sunday, August 16, 2026
6:00 PM CST · Radha-Kalachandji Dhama, Dallas, Texas
You do not have to be present. Your name is still carried into the offering. Join in person at Radha-Kalachandji Dhama, or live from anywhere on YouTube.
On August 16, the Sun enters Simha (Leo), the sign it rules. Once a year, its own light reaches full strength.
Simha (Leo) is a fixed fire sign. Not a quick spark. A steady blaze that holds its shape.
"The splendor of the sun, which dissipates the darkness of this whole world, comes from Me." Krishna, Bhagavad-gita 15.12
"Of lights I am the radiant sun." Bhagavad-gita 10.21
The same day carries the worship of Sri Nrsimhadeva, alongside Surya. He appeared for His devotee Prahlada without waiting for the right conditions, tearing through a boundary that was supposed to be impossible to cross.
The Dharma-sastras describe Sankranti offerings as carrying merit far beyond an ordinary day. Simha (Leo), with the Sun at its fullest, carries an extra measure of that.
The yajna we raise this day rises within a fire sign.
What this Sankranti carries
- The Sun at its own strength, giving at its fullest
- Courage to bring forward what you have quietly built
- Leadership taken up, not avoided
- Generosity offered the way a lion gives, from strength
- The heart strengthened, in devotion and in care for those you lead
- Protection, the same Prahlada received from Sri Nrsimhadeva
- Darkness met and cleared, obstacles removed
- Your name, and your family's, offered into the yajna
The Sankranti Holyname Yajna
Every name offered into the yajna is carried before the Lord.
This is the offering itself, the same yajna raised every month. According to the Dharma-sastra, the ancient sacred scriptures, charity and offering made on Sankranti are described as carrying from 400,000 to 1,000,000 times the ordinary benefit.
From our hearts, we welcome you. Your name, and your family's, offered in the sacred yajna, this Sankranti and every one after, during the day's highest punya kala, its most auspicious hour.
Once you accept, your name is welcomed into the next Sankranti Holyname Yajna. You will receive a short email with a link to join our WhatsApp Sanga and watch the yajna on YouTube. Attend in person, or join live from anywhere.
